Homebuyers Are Getting Used to the New Normal

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically changed the way we live our lives. From working at home to wearing masks in public, we’ve all been forced to adapt to a new normal. But perhaps one of the biggest changes has been in the real estate market. Homebuyers are now having to navigate a world in which virtual home tours and strict health protocols are the norm. At first, it was a bit of an adjustment, but now, homebuyers are getting used to the new normal.

 

One of the biggest changes in the home buying process has been the reliance on virtual home tours. In the past, most homebuyers would want to physically see a home before making an offer. But with the pandemic, many buyers are now relying solely on virtual tours. These tours can be helpful, but they’re not quite the same as seeing a home in person. Homebuyers are learning to ask more detailed questions and pay closer attention to the details captured in the virtual tour to ensure they’re making the right decision.

Another change has been the shift towards remote-based buying processes. Homebuyers are now being asked to fill out applications, provide documentation, and sign forms all online. While some may miss the traditional face-to-face interactions with their real estate agent or mortgage broker, this shift has made the process more efficient and convenient.

Another major adjustment for homebuyers is the shift toward health protocols. Buyers are now required to wear masks and gloves, have their temperatures taken, and sign health waivers before entering a home. While this may seem extreme, it’s necessary to protect everyone involved in the home-buying process. Homebuyers are adapting quickly to these new protocols and are even coming up with ways of making the experience more comfortable, such as choosing to visit homes at less-busy times or bringing their protective gear.

Another silver lining to this new normal is the increased focus on home offices and outdoor spaces. With many people working from home, having a dedicated workspace has become a top priority for homebuyers. Homebuyers are now paying closer attention to homes that have a designated home office or extra space that could be converted into one. Additionally, outdoor spaces have become more important as people look for ways to escape the confines of their homes. Homes with yards or balconies are becoming more desirable, and homebuyers are willing to pay a premium for them.

 

The pandemic has certainly changed the home-buying process, but it hasn’t slowed down the market. Homebuyers are adapting to the new normal and finding ways to make the experience work for them. Virtual home tours, remote-based buying processes, health protocols, and a focus on home offices and outdoor spaces have all become part of the new normal. While it may not be the same as the traditional homebuying experience, it’s still possible to find your dream home in this changing landscape.
